At Scrap Away Metal Recycling, we’re committed to making scrap metal and appliance recycling as easy and transparent as possible. Here are answers to the most common questions our customers ask.

What does Scrap Away Metal Recycling do?

We provide free pickup and eco-friendly recycling of scrap metal, appliances, electronics, and more for homes, businesses, and contractors across Southern Ontario.

Do you charge for pickup?

No! All pickups are 100% free of charge. There are no hidden fees, minimum load requirements, or surprise costs.

How do I schedule a pickup?

You can book online, text us, or give us a call. We offer same-day or next-day pickup, depending on your location and availability.

Recycling & Accepted Items

What kinds of items do you pick up?

We accept a wide range of metal and metal-based items, including:

Fridges, stoves, washers, dryers
TVs, computers, printers, cables
BBQs, lawnmowers, bed frames
Copper wire, aluminum siding, pipes
Commercial equipment & construction scrap

Do you pick up electronics and batteries?

Yes! We provide electronics and e-waste recycling, and we also pick up vehicle and tool batteries for proper recycling.

Do I need to bring items to the curb?

Nope! Our team will go into your garage, backyard, or basement to pick up your items. We do all the lifting.

Do you recycle the items, or just haul them away?

We recycle most of the materials responsibly. Scrap is sorted and sent to certified recycling centers. Nothing is dumped into a landfill.

What happens to the metal after you pick it up?

The metal is sorted by type, cleaned of non-recyclables, and sent to licensed processors for melting and reuse in new products.

Do you work with contractors or businesses?

Absolutely! We regularly serve contractors, builders, landlords, and commercial properties. We also handle bulk or recurring pickups.

Scheduling & Timing

How soon can you come?

We usually offer same-day or next-day pickups. When you contact us, we’ll schedule a time that works best for you.

What if I have a big load or business request?

We love large pickups! For construction, commercial, or multi-unit pickups, please contact us directly and we’ll arrange everything.

Do you pick up from apartments or condos?

Yes, we pick up from multi-unit residences as long as we have access. Please coordinate access instructions with us when booking.

Can I leave items outside if I’m not home?

Yes. As long as the items are accessible and safe, you can leave them outside. Just let us know in advance.

Do you remove items from inside the house?

Yes, our team can safely remove items from your basement, garage, or other accessible areas—no need to move them outside yourself.

Can you handle large or heavy appliances?

Yes. We’re equipped to handle large and heavy appliances like commercial fridges, freezers, and water heaters. Just let us know ahead of time.

Policies & Limitations

What items don’t you accept?

We do not accept:

Wood, drywall, garbage, or non-metal waste
Refrigerators that haven’t been emptied or unplugged
Items containing hazardous materials (e.g., paint cans, chemicals)
Vehicles (we don’t tow cars, but we take car parts and rims)

Do I need to be present for pickup?

No, but it helps. If the items are accessible and safe to remove, you can leave them out. Otherwise, we recommend being home during the appointment.

Is there a limit to how much I can put out?

There’s no strict limit, but for larger loads or bulk cleanouts, we may schedule additional trips or send a larger crew.
